The next Friends of Kings Park Native Plant Sale will be held on Sunday 11 March 2012 from 8.30am till 12.00 noon and will be located at the Exhibition Ground opposite the old display glasshouses off Fraser Avenue (follow the directional signs on Fraser Ave.)

The Friends’ plant sales offer a rare chance to buy unusual native plants that are not often available from commercial nurseries. As well as obtaining some great plants, all funds from the plant sales support worthwhile projects and research in Kings Park and Botanic Garden.

Approximately 11,500 plants (a record number for a March sale) from 270 different species and cultivars will be on sale.  Showstoppers will include over 30 species of Acacias and 20 species of Banksias; an interesting assortment of bird-attracting Grevilleas, Hakeas and Hibbertias; and a wonderful selection of compact plants from the Hypocalymma and Verticordia genera.Regular favourites Adenanthos, Lechenaultia and Melaleuca will also be available, together with an interesting range of rare and priority flora species.

A small number of compact Eremophilas (Poverty Bushes), a small Mallee Eucalypts (14 species) and the re-release of several Kings Park-developed Lechenaultia cultivars are also likely to be snapped up quickly.

New species on offer by the Friends for the first time include: Acacia incurva, Eremophila glabra subsp. verrucosa, Eremophila hillii, Eremophila maculata subsp. brevifolia, Eremophila serpens, Eucalyptus vesiculosa, Lasiopetalum bracteatum, Lechenaultia cv. Kings Park ‘Isabel’ and Lechenaultia cv. Kings Park ‘Madeline’.

Plant prices will range from $3.00 to $13.00. Hybrid Kangaroo Paws and Scaevola cv. 'Blue Print' will be available for $9.00, and Black and Green Kangaroo Paws for $13.00.

To reduce the use of plastic bags in line with the environmental aims of the Friends of Kings Park, Ecobags will also be available for sale on the day for $3.00. EFTPOS and credit card will be accepted.

Local native plant experts, the Kings Park Volunteer Master Gardeners, will be on hand to provide advice on how best to plant and look after your special purchases.
