New Naturescaper Volunteers

The new Naturescaper volunteer program for Rio Tinto Naturescape in Kings Park is attracting keen interest from both new and existing volunteers.

More than 80 applications to become Naturescaper volunteers have been received so far, with further recruitment campaigns planned for coming months.

"Ideally we would like to recruit 150 Naturescapers this year", said Volunteer Development Project Officer Rebecca Maddern.

"We expect very high public visitation to Rio Tinto Naturescape in Kings Park during its first few months of operation, so we will need these volunteers to be primed and ready when the gates open in October."

A one-day Naturescaper "masterclass" will be held for Kings Park Guides, Volunteer Master Gardeners and experienced Friends of Kings Park volunteers who would like to participate. A number of Kings Park volunteers have already expressed their interest and enthusiasm for the project.

This class will focus on orientation to the site and the activities it offers, along with the nuts and bolts of the Naturescaper program.

Existing Kings Park volunteers are also invited to take up short term volunteer roles of two to six months as Naturescaper mentors to assist in its early stages. These volunteers will be additional to the standard roster of Naturescapers and able to move around the site, providing advice and support for new volunteers. This group will also assist with special activities such as the opening event and preview tours.
